How to Start Blogging
I’ve had a lot of ideas recently. They’ve been grand, small, complicated, abstract. All of them hard to explain. All of them forming a huge barrier of performance anxiety. The urge to write, to concretise, is making my hands itch and my head hurt. This meta-writing won’t stop that but it’s a start. Now there’re some words put down on the surface of the internet; something for...

Scratch
Scratch is a brilliant application tailored for quick text capture. It does it better, faster and more well thought through than any other note taking app I’ve seen. “Append to Dropbox file”: sick. If this was a review site I’d give it 4/5. Would have been 5 if they didn’t infect both the interface and the icon with this horrible turquoise gradient. See the website.

I got a present from my brother a few days ago. It’s a pen, made for writing and not drawing. The last object I was this excited about was the toy revolver I got when I was six.

The Phone & the Gaps
Way too much of my life seem to be passing me by as a blurry background behind the sharp, black edges of my iPhone. A lot of people seem to have lost all of their respect for conversation or physical presence. People that begin to compose a new text message while I’m in the middle of a sentence throws me off. It makes me want to say something that hurts their feelings. I’m not afraid to become...

Book
I want to write a book. Just a short one but enough pages to mean something. Enough pages to hurt someone if my book was used as a weapon in a fight. I’ll skip the years of patience, pain, laughs and experience required to write such a thing. Jotting this down makes me realise that this will never happen unless I pursue this in my native language. It probably won’t happen anyway but why...

Things 2
Today we are happy to announce the release of Things 2 for Mac, iPad, and iPhone – a free update for all existing users. And we are introducing a new service, Things Cloud, which keeps your to-dos updated across all your devices – also for free. Took some time. Very good software, very good developers.

Just saw these “sneak peeks” of Photoshop CS6. This worries me. The videos that are supposed to get people excited about the latest and greatest version of Adobe Photoshop shows of the following: Background save (sweet, but mildy exciting) A dark interface (just mildly exciting) A faster liquify with keyboard shortcuts for changing the brush-size. (just random) Disappointed.

Dear Bank,
Let customers see what they’re spending money on. No, not just a long stupid statement list, sorted by date. How about this: Write down the most common grocery stores in your country. Map their accounts to “Groceries”. Suddenly people can see approximately how much money they’ve spent in Grocery stores. Is there a big chunk of money that is sent to the same account every month? That might...

Frank Chimero: A Series of Ill-Informed Hunches... →
viafrank: I don’t think I’ve heard anyone say “none of your business” in the past 10 years. This is either because social media has deteriorated our sense of entitlement to privacy, we all lust after visibility now, or my manners have gotten better. I can not decide. The word inception will soon be a…

Spaghetti
When I was a kid I was very short. One day when my family and I were out sailing I met a boy my age. He was quite tall. I asked him how he did it. He was pretty sure his height depended on two things: Raise your hands to the sky every morning. Eat a lot of spaghetti. There you go.

World Map
A couple of weeks ago I worked on a project involving tracing pieces of an atlas. I bit tedious of course but after spending enough time analysing the shapes of countries, locations of capitals and paths of rivers I had a small realization. The atlas might be the biggest visual cliché in the universe but it is pretty darn stunning. Here she is:

Sayings
I’m not a fan. I’m really not a fan. We have this notion that if one is clever enough, one can capture great wisdom in just a couple of words. This definition includes more than just sayings, of course, but they make a good example. Too often a saying shows up just to kill an argument. A well too used little phrace that is supposed to contain the absolute truth and cannot be...
